Known internationally as the home of music and a place to discover and explore. Hosting two main stages which offer excellent acoustics, 26 education rooms in the education centre, four internal bars, along with a brasserie and a café, makes this venue a great tourist attraction.

Performance acts at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, cover almost every kind of music imaginable, including country, indie, folk, jazz, electronic and dance music to name a few. For classical music lovers the venue has their own orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, who perform regularly.

The Glasshouse International Centre for Music (formerly Sage Gateshead) venue is commonly known for its world-class performances, however it has also built a strong educational reputation thanks to its superb Music Learning and Participation programme. The programme is designed to cover the whole of the North East and Cumbria, offering tuition to individuals of all ages and musical abilities.

The venue also hosts a range of festivals and events for people of all ages, as well as weddings, exhibitions, and award ceremonies, making it a wonderful attraction and promising a great day out.

The building itself is impressive and has become an iconic modern North East landmark. Built in 2004, the £70 million building is made of 3,000 stainless steel panels ans 250 glass panels. Designed by Lord Forster, the architecture truly is breath-taking and unmissable when travelling across the Tyne Bridge, and offers great views of the Quayside and city when inside.

One of the world’s premier music venues won the 2013 gold award for Access For All Tourism. The venue offers extensive accessibility facilities include level access throughout, free Blue Badge parking, hearing loop systems, 35 accessible toilets and monitored light levels in all areas to assist those with visual impairment. The venue was designed and built to be accessible to all . The same high standards apply to access for visitors, performers and staff alike.
