The multi-award-winning live action outdoor theatre spectacular is set in the beautifully landscaped grounds of Kynren, nestled at the bottom of the escarpment on which Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland, proudly sits, and takes guests on a spellbinding journey through two thousand years of history, myth and legend, as we join young Arthur on his epic quest.
Rebellions, wars, magic, majesty, celebration and heartache are vividly brought to ground-shaking life in a dazzling outdoor-theatre spectacular, Kynren - an epic tale of England. From Boudicca’s battles with the Romans to two world wars, via Vikings, Tudors and the fate of Charles I, Kynren’s a family-friendly experience delivering thrills, shocks, tears, laughs, goosebumps and gasps on a truly cinematic scale.
Gates open at least two and a half hours before the start of each show. Guests arriving in good time will be able to get food and drinks from our Food Court and Bar, or visitors can upgrade to our exclusive pre-show dining experience, offering them the chance to enjoy a three-course meal in the spectacular Arches Hall at the heart of the Kynren site. Pre-dinner drinks can be purchased from our bar on an exclusive lakeside terrace with views of Auckland Castle.
New for 2024 - Travel back in time and visit the Viking Village! You'll be able to talk and interact with the villagers as they go about their daily lives, visit the cookhouse, see them tend to the animals, prepare meals and watch the blacksmith at work in his forge producing real chainmail! Just be careful as the Viking warriors are preparing for a raid! Part of the pre-show entertainment at Kynren this season.
Ranked by TripAdvisor as one of the ‘Top Five Shows to See in the UK’, Kynren is an enthralling live summer family entertainment. Audiences watch from the 8,000-seater Tribune which provides panoramic views across the giant outdoor set.
Kynren takes place at 11Arches Park in Bishop Auckland, just 25 minutes from Durham and Darlington, and a town steeped in history spanning the Romans, generations of powerful Prince Bishops, horse-racing, and the Industrial Revolution.
