About
Belle View cottage is set on the moors at Bollihope, 2 miles above Frosterley in Weardale which is in the North Pennines National Landscape.
The cottage sleeps up to 3 guests (one king and one single room) and is dog friendly (up to two well behaved dogs). It offers a well equipped, separate kitchen, plus a spacious lounge diner with great views. In addition to the small, enclosed cottage garden guests are welcome to sit in the main garden with sweeping views across the moors, listening to the bird song and enjoying the peace. There are plenty of walks from the door. Please bear in mind the cottage is accessed by a country track which may not be suitable for vehicles that are very close to the ground.
The cottage is only 2 miles from the village of Frosterley, and 6 miles from Stanhope and Wolsingham, each of which have a butcher, baker and Spar or Co-Op.
The moors are also home to sheep, and its great fun to welcome the lambs in spring. Bollihope Burn runs below the house and offers lovely walks to the Forgotten Quarry, just one of many quiet walks in the area. Phil is always happy to suggest a route to suit you, whether you want a short amble, some sightseeing or are tackling longer routes - for example up to Pawlaw Pike and the Elephant Trees which can be walked from the door. We are also near to long distance paths: The Weardale Way and the Northern Saints Trails, as well as numerous attractions like Beamish Living History Museum, Raby Castle and High Force waterfall. Hadrian's Wall and the coast are little more than an hour's drive away which makes Belle View Cottage an ideal location to explore the North East.
The area is well known as a Dark Skies area and Belle View Cottage is an ideal spot to do some stargazing. Binoculars are supplied at the cottage, so just bring your warm clothing, set up one of the garden chairs (maybe hot drink to hand!) and admire the Milky Way. Alternatively visit during the Dark Skies week in October and join one of the organised events nearby. The cottage is available for short breaks in winter.
