About
I'm a fully qualified Blue Badge Guide for the region, with nearly 20 years experience of working with different types of groups from educational groups to pilgrims so I'm happy to help you put together an individual itinerary suitable for you and your group.
As one of the few local guides also qualified for Scotland and Yorkshire, this can include guided coach tours to the attractions of County Durham and perhaps further afield to Northumberland, the borders and beyond.
I love to help to design something a little bit different, and can help with multi day themed itineraries as well as those who wish to ' hit the highlights'
County Durham has a wealth of great group attractions, plenty of castles and even a palace to explore with your groups,
Guided tours are available for groups of any size, and town and countryside walking tours for smaller groups.
Let me show you the hidden treasures of the North East of England, as well as the better known places, and of course the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Hadrian’s Wall and Durham Cathedral and Castle.
My special areas of interest are:
Country Houses and Gardens
Town and Countryside Walks
Local Food and Traditions
TV and Film Locations
Hadrian’s Wall
Coast and Castles
School and College groups
I welcome enquiries from individuals, small and large groups, school and college groups and tour operators.

Durham city, once the home to the medieval Prince Bishops is best explored on foot. A walking tour can take in the best of the medieval heart of the city and include the Market place, the bridges on the river Wear and a stroll to the jewel in Durham’s crown, Durham Cathedral. Described by Bill Bryson as ‘the best little Cathedral on planet Earth’ this gothic masterpiece sits on Palace Green, facing Durham Castle and both sharing a UNESCO World Heritage Site Designation.
I’m fully qualified to guide in the magnificent Cathedral, and can show you the highlights, or give a more in depth tour.
A guided tour in the city of Durham can include a peaceful riverside walk away from the bustling centre to view the Cathedral from Prebends Bridge- then it’s a short hop on the coach to the Botanic Gardens and perhaps the Oriental Museum with its collection of art and archaeology from the East.
And for a real change of pace, the haunted medieval Crook Hall and Gardens are only a ten minute walk from the city centre- a haven of peace and tranquillity, and perhaps even a nice cup of tea.
