About
Link up the Loops - Consett to Gateshead Cycle Route is a 26 mile challenging cycle route mostly off-road. It is marked on the Durham County Council North Durham Cycle Map as CDN4. This is a really good long route which requires some careful navigation in the middle.
Start at Lydgett's Junction near Consett and follow the National Cycle Network Route 7 to Beamish.
Take rural roads past Beamish Museum and Beamish Hall Hotel (Beamish Wild Adventure Park and High Ropes Course) then turn right to the South Causey Inn.
Cross the A6076 with care then the route goes steeply down to take an interesting off-road route back to Tanfield Railway to follow the railpath to Sunniside.
Look for the bridleway to the west of Sunniside then after half a mile cut through right to keep the houses on your right.
Take the next left then the bridleway track all the way down to the Derwent Walk Railway Path (NCN 14) (close to National Trust's Gibside) to turn left all the way back to Consett.
This route passes near to the following Taste Durham establishments:
Black Horse - Beamish, The Stables - Beamish Hall Hotel and Dainty Dinah Tea Rooms and Davy's Fried Fish and Chip Potato Restaurant at Beamish Museum.
