'Due to ongoing restoration works Killhope will remain temporarily closed throughout the 2024 season. The urgent works will include repairs to the underground mine, washing floor, mine shop, buddle house and jigger house. In the meantime, look our for details of our Killhope in the Community programme which will take the Killhope story on the road across the county.'
A unique Visitor Information Point, situated within the Reception at Killhope. Although the VIP is unmanned, the museum staff have extremely good knowledge of the local area and take pride in answering visitors' questions. More complex requests for assistance with things like accommodation, tickets and county-wide information will be directed to the Durham Visitor Contact Centre via a direct link telephone (free of charge to users).
A wide range of tourist information leaflets and maps can also be picked up during normal opening hours.
*Please note that this Visitor Information Point does not offer a full scale tourist information service.
