About
See FEAST this February, a contemporary art work by Irene Brown, co-curated by Ushaw’s volunteers. The artwork celebrates the history of the President’s Feast which was a tradition at Ushaw every January.
Irene has worked with Ushaw volunteers to create a large-scale three-dimensional paper collage comprised of hundreds of images of food presented on the table in the Parlour. The work is made using combination of digital images sourced online and those submitted by volunteers. With each photograph digitally manipulated using Photoshop to give it a ‘painterly’ appearance – reminiscent of the opulent still-life paintings of food from 17th Century Dutch Masters.
Some of the photographs will be ‘brought to life’ using the augmented reality programme Artivive.
When certain images in the collage are viewed on a phone or iPad using the free Artivive App, they will automatically trigger a short time lapse video of the food gradually disappearing – being virtually consumed.
FEAST is on display from Wednesday 5 February – Thursday 6 March 2025.
Entry is included with an Ushaw Membership or Day Pass.
