About
Learn about the history of heathlands, their decline and how we manage this habitat today. Take part in clearing encroaching scrub to help establish the heathland plant community and associated wildlife. We will be using hand tools to remove encroaching scrub that has a detrimental effect on the heathland habitat and use it to build habitat corridors with the scrub for mammals, birds and reptiles. All tools and gloves will be provided. The session will be for around 2 hours with plenty of breaks and time to take in the views.
This will be followed by a short, guided walk towards the reservoir to look at the varying surrounding habitats and how their diversity provides a home for wildlife. We will be walking on the hard surfaced multi-user path. This session will be for approx. 1hr.
Please park in the bottom car park of Powhill Country Park which is nearest to the Derwent View Glamping area, to meet at 10am.
Please wear clothes suitable for the weather conditions and sturdy footwear. The heathland terrain is undulated and on a bankside with rooted and rocky areas. Please bring a packed lunch and drinks. There are no toilet facilities on site.
