Redhills
Durham Miners’ Association (DMA) hall, known as Redhills, stands today as a testament to this important history of social progress through community enterprise. Located in Durham City, this Grade II listed building with its Pitman’s Parliament is the most outstanding example of trade union architecture in Europe.
Redhills dates back to 1915 and was paid for by more than 100,000 working miners to create a democratic hub where collective decisions could be made for the good of the Durham Coalfield.
After almost six years of fundraising, work has now started on the ambitious renewal of Redhills, the historic Durham Miners’ Hall.
When Redhills reopens in autumn 2025 you can look forward to an improved visitor experience, including audio visual interpretation, a living archive of the Durham Coalfield, beautiful conference and wedding venue, exciting event programme, ever changing exhibitions, creative spaces, community programmes and more.
