About
On 14th February, Shildon will illuminate its unique place in history with "Shildon Hearts", a light-filled celebration of love, connection and community. Honouring Shildon’s crucial involvement in the birth of the Stockton & Darlington Railway on its 200th anniversary, this event draws parallels between Shildon’s ability to connect people and places and the bonds that connect hearts and communities today.
From 3pm, the event will span across two sites, Shildon Town Square and Locomotion. Start your journey at Locomotion and make your own light-up heart with artist Adele Catchpole. While you’re there check out Travelling Tales, a light installation by artist Hannah Kelly who has worked with local school children to create the piece which shines a light on local stories.
Jump on our story carriage for a ride back into town, with two mysterious passengers who seemingly join us from the 1800’s!
In the Town Square, you are encouraged to add your light-up heart to a growing community display of love, which surrounds our centre-piece, Stuart Langley’s ‘Love IRL’; a light installation that has shone brightly at major festivals and events across the country.
