“A Dales Journey” is a 90 miles drive following the footsteps of John Wesley’s 1761 journey visiting five of the oldest Methodist chapels in the world.
Start at Keenley Chapel NY 80365 56656, (NE47 9NS)
Drive eastwards into Allendale Town, turn right onto B6295 for about 12 miles into Weardale. At the A689 turn right. Killhope Lead Mining Museum NY 82688 42790 (DL13 1AR) is on the left after about 1 mile.
Leaving Killhope turn right along A689 for 5 miles to The Weardale Museum and High House Chapel in Ireshopeburn. NY 87262 38546, (DL13 1HD)
From High House Chapel continue eastwards along A689 for 2 miles to Westgate Methodist Chapel. NY 90540 38034, (DL13 1LQ)
From Westgate drive eastwards along A689 to Stanhope (6 miles) and turn right onto the B8278 to Middleton in Teesdale (12 miles), turn right and follow B6277 for Newgiggin (2 miles) NY 91560 27643, (DL12 0TY)
Drive eastwards to Middleton, follow B6278 to Barnard Castle, A688 to Bishop Auckland and the A6072 to Shildon. (Follow signs to Locomotion) NZ 23225 25844, (DL4 1PQ)
From Locomotion follow A6072 southwards,then the A68 into Darlington. Take Yarm Road B6280 then A67 to Yarm Methodist Chapel. NZ 41992 12905, (TS15 9AJ)
From Yarm take A67 southwards to A19 and continue to the Northallerton junction, turn left along Clack Lane to Osmotherley Chapel. SE 45649 97251, (DL6 3BJ)
