What’s new for groups staying in Durham in 2020
7th February 2020
With 2020 designated as Durham’s Year of Pilgrimage, groups are finding more reasons to stay a little longer and discover what Durham has to offer. From luxury treehouses to rural retreats and refurbished rooms in historic properties, there’s a range of new accommodation for groups to experience in 2020.
In Durham City, groups can revel in history at the four-star Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County. Dating back to the 17th Century with 150 rooms and several boasting incredible views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Durham Cathedral and Castle, the rooms of this city centre hotel have all been recently refurbished in 2019.
Just a five-minute drive from Durham City is Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf & Spa and their new luxury treehouses for 2020. Set amongst 300-acres of stunning grounds, the two new treehouses are a perfect choice for groups of up to 12 guests looking for a relaxing getaway, with the added bonus of award-winning spa facilities, multiple dining options and a central location.
Four miles from Durham City, smaller groups can unwind at Bowburn Hall in one of their recently refurbished luxury bedrooms and new Woodland Lodges. Overlooking the hotel’s landscaped gardens, the new woodland lodges boast 6ft double beds, whirlpool baths, walk in showers, decking area and complimentary toiletries as standard.
In the Vale of Durham and just a five-minute drive from Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, groups can stay at the South Causey Inn – a quirky inn with 10 new accommodation spaces for 2020. The centrepiece of the project is The Farmhouse, a private house overlooking the rolling Beamish countryside, with six new en-suite rooms for up to 12 guests. 2020 will also see the development of two new Causey Villas, both sleeping eight guests with stylish furnishings, private hot tubs and parking.
As well as great accommodation, groups can also enjoy great food and drink with hotels providing a taste of Durham with award-winning breakfasts and group dining options.
